A bold prediction

In the first reading today, the prophet Haggai continues to explain (audio link) a prediction that describes the house of the Lord will be rebuilt:

For thus says the LORD of hosts: One moment yet, a little while,
and I will shake the heavens and the earth,
the sea and the dry land.
I will shake all the nations,
and the treasures of all the nations will come in,
And I will fill this house with glory,
says the LORD of hosts.
Mine is the silver and mine the gold,
says the LORD of hosts.
Greater will be the future glory of this house
than the former, says the LORD of hosts;
And in this place I will give you peace,
says the LORD of hosts!

This is followed up in the Gospel of Luke by the admonition by Christ Jesus that he is the “son of man” in a discussion with the apostles:

Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.”
He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone.

He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly
and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

Peter gets rebuked a lot by Jesus.  It must have been a difficult relationship for Peter to understand why Jesus rebuked him despite the fact that in this verse Peter actually spoke the truth.

I unfortunately do not have the theological training necessary to understand if Peter was trained in the scriptures and understood that Jesus was the fulfillment of the (many) prophecies from the Old Testament.

It is interesting that Saint Peter spoke out to call Jesus the “Christ of God.”  This is telling.

So in my world today, I wonder if there will be an opportunity to declare Jesus the “Christ of God.”  This would show my faith in that Jesus is the place where all disciples can receive peace, as foretold by the prophet Haggai.

Certainly I pray for peace today.

Please send me your prayer intentions for yourself or your loved ones and I will pray for them.

In Christ’s name, I pray for you.
